Koito has to study for a test in the sixth episode of Otaku Elf, but Elda keeps her distracted from that. Then the elf has a ritual to perform at the top of Tokyo Skytree.
The first half of this anime episode adapts the manga’s episode seventeen, made up of chapters #43: The Cheater, #44: Gotta Study, and #45: You’re an Elf, Teach Me!. They cut out Elda doing an online Mobile Suit Gundam– ahem, sorry, “Mobile Soldier Gongem” quiz, instead starting with Koito and Koma talking. The anime does show us exactly what vocabulary Koito is studying, though
This first half is mostly Koito’s unsuccessful attempts at studying. If Elda isn’t interrupting her, she’s procrastinating. But hey, Elda should be able to help Koito out with Japanese history, right?
She does, but reminiscing about those events is not fun for the elf.
For the second half of this anime episode, we get the manga’s episode 9. That is chapters #25: Fly Me to the Tokyo Sky, #26: The Elf and Me and Old Mt. Fuji, and #27: Stand By Me. Not much to report here, really. The discussion that Koito and Elda have whilst ascending the Skytree is slightly different, but it’s another case of it ultimately conveying the same thing in both versions.
In both manga and anime we get a moment where Koito narrates about Elda making a certain expression and not liking it. I don’t think it ever gets brought up again, so I guess Elda got over whatever was troubling her.
But anyways, I love that moment where Elda brings Koito onto the holy ground. A pretty good way to show the bond between the pair of them, I’d say.
I really liked this episode of Otaku Elf. Once again, a nice balance of funny and heartwarming.
This episode also means that two full volumes have now been completely adapted. I’m really happy with what we’ve gotten so far, and am naturally looking forward to even more.
