Bofuri I Don't Want to Get Hurt, so I'll Max out My Defense. Volume 2 (Manga)

Front cover of the second volume of the Bofuri: I Don’t Want to Get Hurt, so I’ll Max Out My Defense. manga, featuring Sally

Having advanced to the second stratum, Maple and Sally prepare for the upcoming event: a week-long exploration fest and battle royale. But there’s one attack that no amount of defence can protect Maple against – the admins nerfing her! With limits placed on her invincibility and the viability of her extreme build in question, Maple will have to find new ways to break the game if she wants to keep up with the top rankers!

Maple got to enjoy quite a bit of time being an invincible monster, but that changes with this volume. Still, that doesn’t deter her from playing NewWorld Online, as she and Sally actually take time to consider what skills could prove useful.
So whereas Maple managed to break the game through sheer ignorance before, now she is actively doing so. Even her slow movement speed is something that she manages to find a skill to work around.
Maple certainly comes up with some very creative uses for the skills she picks up. Sally’s no slouch either, and the duo make for quite the team.

The main focus of this volume is the exploration and battle royale event, which means we get plenty of quality time with Maple and Sally. They stumble into a fair bit of action as they search for medals – even discovering a foe that is a threat to Maple.
Although its seems the biggest threat to Maple are not the monsters, but the admins themselves. They make a brief appearance in this volume, and their reaction to Maple and Sally’s feats is pretty funny.

Bofuri continues to be a fun read – something that definitely comes across in light novel, manga and anime form. It never takes itself too seriously – after all, it is about a girl playing a video game. The way in which she plays game leads to some pretty funny situations, and therefore we get some great entertainment out of it.
Lots of fun stuff in this volume as Maple and Sally continue to increase their abilities.
