Yuri Is My Job! Episode 10: Lady Blume’s Decree

Sumika shares a cautionary tale about Liebe Girls Acaedemy in the tenth episode of Yuri Is My Job!, all in an effort to get Kanoko to give up on Hime.

Mai, Saionji & Sumika

Mai, Saionji and Sumika – the founding members of the salon

This episode adapts from the fourth volume of the manga, first giving us Shift 17: Lady Blume’s Decree in anime form. This is where Sumika tells Kanoko about the romance between two former members of the salon: Saionji and another girl named Goeido.
The only really notable difference between the manga and anime here is that Sumika and Kanoko’s conversation takes place outside of CafĂ© Liebe. In the manga, they are in a restaurant, continuing on directly from their chat before the flashback chapter.

Saionji and Goeido kissing

Saionji fell for Goeido

Sumika kind of bugs me here – in both manga and anime form. If she has no romantic intentions towards Saionji, why does she try to interfere when Saionji falls for someone else? That is actually something that get addressed a little later on in the episode, but I do feel that perhaps Sumika is a little overly dramatic about what happened.
After all, the salon is very much still around, and most of the people who worked there back then are still around.

Kanoko

Kanoko snaps at Hime and instantly regrets it

The second half of this episode adapts Shift 18: Will You Come Back?. Another chapter with very little in the way of changes. There are a couple of small extra scenes, but that’s it.
What we do get to see is Kanoko standing up to Sumika, and then things becoming awkward between the pair. Hime picks up on something happening with Kanoko, but of course Kanoko is incapable of actually saying what’s wrong. Kanoko is not having the best time this episode.

Nene

Nene sits down to chat with Sumika

It is Nene who talks to Sumika about the whole romance in the salon thing, particularly as she was Saionji – but you all figured that out already, right? Nene says that Sumika may be kind, but she can be annoying with that kindness – even trying to meddle in romances that should not concern her.
Admittedly Kanoko’s obsession with Hime probably isn’t the most healthy thing, but is it something that Sumika really needs to be involved with?
Nene’s only really had bit parts until now, but she definitely left a good impression here with the one conversation she has with Sumika. I’m glad someone could talk some sense into her.

Good episode here. Next time, we find out who will become Lady Blume.
