Yuri Is My Job! Episode 2: Is This Guest a Friend of Yours?

Whether she likes it or not, Hime has now officially started working as a member of Café Liebe. Her relationship with her schwester isn’t exactly that great, and things only get more complicated when another newcomer joins.

Hime’s not the only one putting up a facade

This episode of Yuri Is My Job! brings the anime adaptation of chapters – or “Shifts”, as the manga calls them – three and four. Shift 3 is “Is This Guest a Friend of Yours?”, and Shift 4 is “Shall We Begin Service Now?”.
As it turns out, I don’t really have much to say when it comes to differences between the manga and anime. Everything you see here you can also see in black and white in the manga.

The main focus of this episode is Hime’s close friend, Kanoko Mamiya. A friend who pretty quickly discovers where it is Hime is working. Oh, and Mai just so happened to forget to tell Hime to keep her new job a secret from her friends. You know, after she told Kanoko she got herself a part time job… Hime’s not at fault for that, though, and there’s another instance of the job training being extremely poor, but I’ll get to that in due course.
The most important thing to take away from this is that Kanoko also joins Café Liebe – and more willingly than Hime did.

With Kanoko joining, that brings us into the adaptation of Shift 4: “Shall We Begin Service Now?”. Kanoko’s addition to the Café certainly makes life a lot more interesting for Hime. This is where the fun really begins.

You’d think someone would take the time to help new employees become acquainted with the menu and all those German words, but apparently not. Kanoko says that Hime “did nothing wrong” in this episode, and in terms of working at Café Liebe, I’m inclined to agree. Hopefully we’ll be able to put silly things like that behind us soon, and focus more on Hime’s relationships with her coworkers.

I did enjoy this episode more than the first, and I think most of that is courtesy of Kanoko. Things are definitely going to get even more interesting.
