Adachi and Shimamura are in their second year of high school in the fourth volume of Moke Yuzuhara’s Adachi and Shimamura manga adaptation. Shimamura’s making friends easily enough, whilst Adachi only has one person on her mind.
This volume contains chapters nineteen to twenty-five.Adachi and Shimamura are now in their second year of high school. Luckily, they’re in the same class this semester, but when Adachi sees Shimamura making friends with their new classmates so quickly, she starts to panic. Feeling left out, she begins distancing herself from Shimamura, who can’t help but notice that Adachi’s been on her mind a whole lot these days…
The new year has started, and Adachi is still very much Adachi. The only thing on her mind is Shimamura, so naturally she panics when Shimamura befriends their new classmates. This volume starts with things from Shimamura’s perspective, in which she meets with Tarumi again.
Tarumi’s reason for wanting to meet with Shimamura is fairly obvious, although Shimamura is pretty oblivious to it. She does seem vaguely aware of something, but it just isn’t there yet.
Over on Adachi’s sides of things, she’s distancing herself from Shimamura. At least until a chance encounter with a “station shaman”, which gives her the push she needs to actually pluck up the courage to talk to Shimamura again. And that ultimately leads to her asking for a sleepover.
This is a pretty enjoyable volume of Adachi and Shimamura. I do tend to enjoy this series more when we’re seeing things from Adachi’s perspective, and there’s plenty of that to go around here. Shimamura does seem to be grasping some things about Adachi, but it will never not be entertaining to see Adachi’s gay panic.
