More Anime Announcements That Have Captured My Interest

Recently, I wrote about Cross Ange and Kantai Collection. It seems that August is the month for interesting announcements concerning anime that I hope to watch. So, let’s take a look at what has piqued my interest, shall we?

There were two announcements that caught my attention. First was Yuki Yuna wa Yusha de Aru, which translates as Yuna Yuki is Hero. Pony Canyon began streaming the first promotional video for this original TV anime series.

The video has Yuna introduce herself as a hero, and also introduces her friends in the Hero Club: club president Fu Inubozaki, club president’s younger sister Itsuki and Yūna’s best friend Mimori Togo.

Haruka Terui voices Yuna Yuki
Yumi Uchiyama voices Fu Inubozaki
Tomoyo Kurosawa voices Itsuki Inubozaki
Suzuko Mimori voices Mimori Togo

The series is based on an original plan by Takahiro (Akame ga KILL!), directed by Seiji Kishi (Persona 4 The Animation, Danganronpa The Animation) at Studio Gokumi. Series composition is being handled by Makoto Uezu and character design is by BUNBUN.

The story is set in the era of gods, year 300. Ordinary middle school student Yuna Yuki is a member of the “Hero Club”. Club activities involve dealing with a mysterious being called “Vertex”.

This anime is due to air in October.

So it seems that Yuki Yuna wa Yusha de Aru will maybe be a slice-of-life anime, but that whole hero and ‘vertex’ thing suggests there’s something more. I certainly look forward to seeing what this one brings.

The second announcement has a title that I immediately fell in love with. It is Yuri Kuma Arashi, which translates as Yuri Bear Storm.
This anime will be adapted from the manga of the same name, by Akiko Morishima. Kunihiko Ikuhara (Revolutionary Girl Utena, Penguindrum, several Sailor Moon series) will be directing. Character designs are being adapted by Etsuko Sumimoto (animation director on Puella Magi Madoka Magica The Movie Part 3: Rebellion, Honey and Clover II. The animation is being produced by studio Silver Link.
As for the story, it is described as an ‘intellectual fantasy’. The plot follows ‘transparent’ high school girl Kureha, who is plain and barely noticed by others. Every night, she dreams about a bear and a transparent storm. In the dream, the bear is none other than mysterious classmate Ginko Yurishiro.
It sounds quite bizarre, but I certainly look forward to seeing it. Unfortunately, no release date yet.
