Thoughts on Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear Volume 5 (Light Novel)

Yuna is keen to create a trade route between Crimonia and Mileela in the fifth volume of Kumanano’s Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear light novel series. There’s just the small matter of the mountains that separates them…
If going over is impractical, then Yuna will just go through. That comes with its own problems, though, as Yuna discovers…

A Bear Transports Wares
The kraken has been slain, but Yuna’s seaside commerce career is just beginning! Faced with the problem of transporting goods, the Bloody Bear sets out to establish a secure trade route between Mileela and Crimonia – even if she has to cut her way across the land with magic to do it. Denizens of the world, watch out: this bear stops for nothing!

Yuna’s desire for seafood took her to Mileela, which had its fair share of problems to deal with – problems that Yuna took care of in the previous volume. With those out of the way, Yuna really starts focusing on finding a way to get seafood from Mileela to Crimonia.
Not to forget that she also picks up a wife someone who knows how to prep seafood. At least a couple of times Yuna frames it as her stealing away the innkeeper’s daughter. The innkeeper seems pretty cool with that, actually. Of course that is all just played for laughs, so it shouldn’t be taken too seriously. It does seem to backpedal on that whole thing, though, when the innkeeper mentions something about his daughter finding a husband.

Anyways, the main plot of this particular volume revolves around Yuna “discovering” a tunnel that just so happens to link Crimonia and Mileela. Yuna’s so-called “discovery” of the tunnel pretty much comes from a place of selfishness for Yuna. She doesn’t give much thought toward the thing, but then guild masters and nobles end up getting involved. Yuna soon discovers that there’s a lot that has to be done, and she has to take responsibility one way or another… even if she would rather not.

This volume also marks the first appearance of actual wild bears in Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear. Fortunately for Yuna, they get on well with Kumayuru and Kumakyu. That whole thing with the bears also happens to come about in connection with food. A lot of what Yuna does is motivated by her stomach, it seems. It just so happens that her desires tend to be a boon for many other people, too.

Pretty fun volume of Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear here. Besides the whole tunnel thing, Yuna also gets to spend some quality time with Fina and Shuri, fulfilling a promise she had made with them earlier. That provides some cute moments. I really quite enjoyed reading this volume.
