Thoughts on Magical Girl Spec-Ops Asuka Volume 10

It is Chisato’s turn to step up in the tenth volume of Magical Girl Spec-Ops Asuka as the action continues in Russia.
This volume contains chapters thirty-nine through to forty-two.

A Russian Raid
Nazani’s infiltration of the Russian Mafia ended in disastrous failure, but a rescue operation is already underway. Magical Girl Chisato and the operatives from Public Security are prepared to storm the building – not just to save Nazani, but also to rescue Tamara from brutal brainwashing. To pull it off, they’ll have to prevail against a genius of hand-to-hand combat and a corpse-puppeting necromancer. The battle against the Babel Brigade continues worldwide!

Nazani had her moment to shine in the Russian arc, and now it is Chisato’s turn in this volume. Expect a lot of martial arts. Any fight that Chisato is involved in quickly becomes fisticuffs, though perhaps referring to it that way does a disservice to Chisato’s combat abilities.
Seeing Chisato in action was one of the things that I most anticipating about this particular arc, and she definitely does not disappoint.
Though Nazani may not see as much combat, she definitely delivers some good moments, too. She’s willing to go quite far to ensure the success of the mission, even if it means being assaulted.

We also get to witness the developing bond between Chisato and Nazani in this volume, which is quite a sweet thing. A sweet thing mixed in with violence, tentacle monsters and brainwashing, but a sweet thing nonetheless.
I definitely want to see more between the two girls in the future.

For the present, though, the main objective of the operation is to rescue Tamara, and Nazani and Chisato are only able to do so much. That’s when Asuka and Kurumi step up, and the action continues.
I don’t think it can be understated just how much action there is in this volume. Everyone puts their all into their battles, even if some are doing so as a result of brainwashing. It’s still an impressive display, and sure keeps things thrilling.

This volume of Magical Girl Spec-Ops Asuka was one that I enjoyed reading a lot. Chisato and Nazani get some development, there’s some incredible action and Rapture and War Nurse finally get to join in on the fun. This Russian arc has been quite the ride so far.
