Summer 2021 Anime: First Impressions

The summer season of anime is now underway, and the first episodes of many a show have aired. As is usually the case, I shall be sharing my initial impressions of the shows that I have chosen to watch for the season.
A couple of the shows I want to watch don’t start airing until the very end of this month (or the beginning of next month, depending on time zones, I guess), so they won’t be included here.My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! XMy Next Life as a Villainess All Routes Lead to Doom! XYep, Katarina Claes is still as dense as ever. The first episode of the second season of My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom was a pretty good way to kick off the season. Still Team Maria, don’t care what anyone says.
Of course, that does potentially mean this show could take a route that I don’t particularly enjoy, but we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.

Kageki Shojo!!Kageki Shojo!!This show was all right. Sasara was the only character that really stood out to me; the others didn’t really leave much of an impression. I’m sure we’ll get to know them as the story continues, though. Not the best, not the worst.

Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid STohru vs IluluOK, but this is just divine. Exquisite. The second season of Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid kicked off in style with Ilulu making her anime debut in style. Definitely would have to choose this one as the best premiere of the season.

The aquatope on white sandThe aquatope on white sandMaybe the prettiest show this season, out of the ones I am watching. Though, Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid S is offering up some tough competition. A pretty intriguing first episode for this one, as we get one girl meeting another girl. Where that will go remains to be seen, but I do like what has been presented to us so far.

Love Live! Superstar!!Love Live! Superstar!!Another show with a pretty strong start, even if it does copy and paste certain elements from previous entries of the Love Live! franchise. I’m not sure how many times we need a school idol sceptic… especially when it’s no secret that they’ll become one themselves.
Something that is interesting to note, though, is that the eventual group we’re getting here, Liella, will have only five members. I’m quite curious to see what the show does with the episodes were new members aren’t being welcomed into the fold.
Still, a solid start here. Definitely sits alongside Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid S and The aquatope on white sand as one of my favourites this season.

The two aforementioned shows that have yet to air are Magia Record‘s second season and The Great Jahy Will Not be Defeated. I’ll probably Tweet something about their first episodes once they have.

Fairly decent start to the season overall. Looking forward to seeing what we get from it.
