The weather is warming up, and the increase in heat brings along with it a new season of anime. As ever, I shall be sharing with you which shows I have chosen to watch for this season. Information about the shows comes from LiveChart.me.
The Aquatope on White Sand
This show gives off huge A Tropical Fish Yearns for Snow vibes, which is a yuri manga I’ve been enjoying recently. It’s about a former idol meeting a curator of an aquarium. Looks like they’ll be working together to realise a dream, and hopefully growing closer and closer together whilst doing so.
The Aquatope on white sand starts airing on 8/7/2021.
The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated!
A slice of life comedy about the second in command of the Dark Realm getting stripped of her powers and being forced to live in the human world. From what I can see, this one has a similar feel to the likes of Dropkick on My Devil! and Gabriel DropOut. Seems like it could be a fun one.
I was going to watch this one anyway, but Subaru, Aqua and Nene from Hololive performing the ending theme for this show has definitely increased my interest in it even more.

Kageki Shojo!!
Another stage girl anime. For me, Revue Starlight is the stands at the pinnacle of that extremely specific genre, but, hey, if this ends up at least has half as good as that show, then we’re onto a winner.

Love Live! Superstar!!
The next entry in the Love Live! franchise. I do feel that Nijigasaki set an incredibly high bar, and I’ll admit I’m not immediately won over by the character designs for the girls of Liella.
But, it is a new Love Live!, and I do tend to find them pretty enjoyable regardless. Hence why I’ve chosen to watch this.

Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story 2nd Season – Eve of Awakening
Magia Record will finally continue its story, which I’ve been waiting for. I still would have preferred a Puella Magi Kazuma Magica adaptation, but I’m glad to see that this hasn’t been abandoned. Unlike the (not exactly) global release of the game. They’ve also confirmed a third season for this one. This will never be better than the original Puella Magi Madoka Magica, but hey, at least we’re getting more Madoka content – even if Madoka herself only ends up being cameo…

Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid S
The second season of Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid! Yes, there may be the odd element here and there I’m not too keen on, but ultimately the stuff that is good in the show (and manga it is adapted from) more than make up for those rough patches.
I’m hoping that Elma will be one to watch in this season; she gets an incredible arc in the manga, and I want so badly for it to be here in the anime.
Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid S starts airing on 7/7/2021.
My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! X
The ever dense Katarina Claes returns, along with all the ladies who are into her… and the guys, too, I suppose. First season was fun, hoping the same can be said of the second.

Those are the new shows I’ll be watching when summer arrives. I’ll be covering Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid S weekly, going for a manga vs. anime thing. Everything else, I’ll just be watching at my own pace.
This selection is rounded out by continuing shows: Blue Reflection Ray, BORUTO: NARUTO NEXT GENERATIONS, My Hero Academia Season 5, One Piece and Tropical-Rouge! PreCure.
Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid S is my most anticipated show this season. Everything else looks like it will be fairly enjoyable.
There are some other shows that I may or may not pick up, but this is what I know I will definitely be watching.
