Thoughts on Didn’t I Say to Make My Abilities Average in the Next Life?! Everyday Misadventures! Volume 1

What happens when you take a light novel, and create a manga spin-off for it? You make an already long title even longer, as Yuki Moritaka has done with Didn’t I Say to Make My Abilities Average in the Next Life?! Everyday Misadventures!.
As you may have guessed, this is a spinoff of FUNA’s Didn’t I Say to Make My Abilities Average in the Next Life?! light novel series.
The English language version of this manga is licensed for release by Seven Seas Entertainment. This first volume contains chapters one through to nine, plus a bonus story.

Mile is living the 4-koma life now!
Enjoy the fun and fluffy everyday (mis)adventures of the Crimson Vow! This spin-off comedy is a lighthearted romp featuring the unforgettable cast of Didn’t I Say to Make My Abilities Average in the Next Life?!

First things first, this manga is set sometime after the Crimson Vow have been active for a while. You could probably safely jump in after having watched the anime, should you find the idea of reading the light novels or their manga adaptation not so appealing. This is definitely meant for fans of Abilities Average, and not newcomers.

Being a comedy spin-off of the Abilities Average light novels, you’d expect certain character traits to be exaggerated. However, I don’t feel that is the case with Everyday Misadventures!, as all four of the Crimson Vow girls behave exactly as I have come to expect of them from the light novels.
I guess that’s a testament to FUNA’s writing that the Crimson Vow just need to behave as they always do to provide the laughs. For the most part; Mile’s obsession with wanting a little cat-eared girl might just be a little more extreme than the light novel.

Not every chapter focuses on Mile and the Crimson Vow. No, one focuses on Adele and the Wonder Trio. Of course, Adele the is the moniker Mile went by before her Crimson Vow days. No matter her name, though, Mile is still Mile.
Much of the from Mile revolves around her attempts to be normal, which ultimately makes her anything but. Again, this is also something that is true of the light novels.
Reina’s her usual fiery self, Pauline never hesitates to seize a money-making opportunity and Mavis has all the girls fallen her. It’s par for the course for the Crimson Vow.

This manga is a fun spin-off, and well worth looking into if you enjoyed the Crimson Vow’s adventures – whether that be in light novel, manga or anime form. If you’re a newcomer to the Abilities Average series, then my recommendation is to read the light novels, which will in turn allow you to enjoy Everyday Misadventures! even more.
