The fifth episode of Otherside Picnic finally gets us to the Station February chapter of the light novel. I was expecting this to be episode three, but it is what it is.
Toriko and Sorawo find themselves taking an unplanned trip into the Otherside this time around.

Toriko tries on the hat she got from Hasshaku-sama
After eating a meal, Toriko and Sorawo find themselves unexpectedly stepping into the Otherside. After fleeing from the usual supernatural phenomena, they come upon a group of soldiers.

Just one of the many dangers you can find in the Otherside at night
As I’ve already mentioned, this episode adapts chapter three of the light novel, “Station February”. The meal that Sorawo and Toriko eat together at the start is a celebration for surviving two trips into the Otherside in the light novel. Here, it’s as an apology to Kozakura for what happened previously.
Which would be fine, but Kozakura being entirely absent feels a little awkward to me. Besides, Kozakura joining Sorawo and Toriko happens at the beginning of chapter 5. I suspect that will be the next one that will be adapted, considering it is directly connected to the third chapter.

With no weapons, running is the only option
I should also point out that this episode only adapts part of chapter 3. It’s a little odd, considering the longer chapter 4 got only one episode whilst this one is being split into two.
I guess it’s also entirely possible that chapters 3 and 5 will be kind of squished together across two episodes. We’ll just have to see what happens next time.

Lieutenant Will Drake
The events for this episode pretty much play out the same way in both light novel and anime, besides that small part at the start. The light novel does give the impression that the US Marines that Sorawo and Toriko encounter speak a lot more English to each other, though it doesn’t go into detail about what they say.
After all, the light novel is told from Sorawo’s point of view, so she has very little idea what they’re saying when they speak English.

The Horned Man
This episode ends when Sorawo and Toriko arrive at the Marines’ base camp, but the light novel chapter keeps going.
Still, pretty good episode, though. It gave us a decent build-up for what is to follow.
I’m curious why they chose this order of events, but maybe it’ll come together well enough?
I think, even without saying “they were talking a lot to each other” it gave off the impression pretty heavily that was given in the LN anyway (being that they didn’t trust Sorawo and Toriko AT ALL)
The atmosphere was handled really well!
More mysteries.I eagerly await to learn more about as Sorawo’s feelings for Toriko grow stronger.
