Ms. Koizumi returns to slurp even more ramen in the second volume of Naru Narumi’s Ms. Koizumi loves ramen noodles., though she is not alone in that endeavour. Yu might just have her eyes on a bit more than than the ramen, though…
This second volume contains chapters – or bowls – ten through to nineteen.Yu’s worried about whether Ms. Koizumi might have a boyfriend… but as usual, the only thing Ms. Koizumi’s worried about is missing all the tastes to try in ramen! How about butter ramen with a sweet pepper accent, from Japan’s dairy region in Hokkaido? Chashu – stewed and smoky pork belly ramen? Fukuoka’s famous red spicy miso akamaru ramen? Do you have the special fork for eating ramen? Know the German style of slurping noodles? Better same room for more – because this is only a few pages in the delicious volume two!
The title of the manga may be Ms. Koizumi loves ramen noodles., but she isn’t the only one enjoying them in this volume. It’s nice to see Yu and her friends partaking in meals, occasionally without Ms. Koizumi anywhere to be seen.
That has not changed Yu’s feelings towards Ms. Koizumi, though, and she does try to accompany her whenever possible. Ms. Koizumi doesn’t exactly show much excitement towards Yu’s company, but she doesn’t exactly turn her away, either.
Reading this manga is an education, especially when it comes to ramen. Well, you’d hope so, given the title. Apparently the UK has the most ramen shops among European countries – Germany and France are second and third respectively. Or that was at least true when the chapter that says so was published back in 2015 – I don’t know about now.
At least all the information about what goes into ramen is probably still true. You can tell that Naru Narumi is passionate about ramen, and the translation also conveys that very well.
Ms. Koizumi loves ramen noodles. is a fun read with all the details about ramen and such, but I don’t recommend reading it on an empty stomach.
