As of this episode of Adachi and Shimamura, the anime has now overtaken the official English release of the light novel. The last part of the second light novel is adapted, but beyond that I don’t know what comes next.
So this episode of Adachi and Shimamura delves into the unknown for me, as we still have to wait a little longer for the official English release of the next volume in the light novel series. However, there are also some familiar scenes here, as this episode starts with the final couple of chapters from novel 2.
We get the final “Yashiro Comes Calling” interlude adapted in this episode to kick things off, and that is followed up with the adaptation of the “Flawless Thighs” chapter.
Shimamura is actually present when Little Shimamura and Yashiro are playing around in the light novel, but not in the anime.
Then we get the adaptation of the “Chest Contemplation” chapter, which might just be one of my favourite chapters I’ve read so far. It is also up there as one of my favourite scenes from this show. Adachi is easily my favourite character in this show, particularly with things like her chest contemplation.
Oh, and that ends the adaptation of the second light novel. Everything beyond this point is completely new to me.
The plot of this episode can more or less be boiled down to Adachi trying to drum up enough courage to ask Shimamura if she wants to hang out on Valentine’s Day. Adachi continues to be her adorable, awkward self. We also get some more insight into how Shimamura feels about her relationship with Adachi; her grey days are becoming more colourful.
We also get some more sweet Hino and Nagafuji interactions. Apparently they’ve been exchanging Valetine’s chocolate for quite a while, though Shimamura seems to write that off as just a friendship thing. I don’t know, it seems like there is something more there.
Before I wrap up, I do want to take the time to acknowledge Adachi’s nervous hiccuping. The anime doesn’t really go into any detail about that at all; perhaps the light novel will shed more light on that detail.
It makes Adachi seem drunk, and her almost falling over doesn’t exactly help…
Also, make sure to stay tuned until after the credits; there’s an extra scene there.
Overall, a really enjoyable episode. I was worried that the anime might skip over the last two chapters of the second light novel, but I was proven wrong. I’m glad too, because Adachi’s scene in particular is just so good. Wonderful stuff, as ever.
