Our Wonderful Days is a yuri manga written and illustrated by Kei Hamuro. It was originally published in Japan as Tsurezure Biyori, and licensed for an English release by Seven Seas Entertainment.
This first volume contains chapters one through to six.
More than friends, not quite lovers
As children, Koharu and Mafuyu were best buds until Mafuyu moved away to Tokyo. But now, several years have passed and Mafuyu is back, attending the same high school as Koharu. As the two girls explore their sleepy hometown, Koharu can’t help but develop a crush on her childhood best friend…
The first thing I want to say about Our Wonderful Days is that the front cover of the first volume gives off the same vibes as the front cover of Bloom into You‘s third volume. Perhaps Kei Hamuro got some inspiration from Nio Nakatani.
As for what is actually inside the volume, Our Wonderful Days starts with the beginning of a school year. Four characters are introduced to us; Koharu and Mafuyu, whom the blurb is focused on, and Minori and Nanaya.
As already mentioned, Koharu and Mafuyu were childhood friends. Their story in this first volume focuses on their reunion, with some subtle suggestions here and there that they may have feelings for each other that goes beyond friendship.
Seems like it might be a bit of a slow burn before the two realise that they both share romantic feelings for each other, but that’s fine. There are plenty of cute moments between the two girls.
As for our other pair of girls, Minori and Nanaya, they really stole the show for this first volume of Our Wonderful Days. They live together, and their interactions are best described as an old married couple.
They may not be given equal billing in the blurb, but things are more balanced out between the two couples in the story itself. Things seem pretty good between Minori and Nanaya for the moment, but I could see some drama arising from a crush one of them has on a certain female teacher…
None of that at the moment, though, and I did greatly appreciate the chapter just focusing on Minori and Nanaya’s home life together.
Koharu, Mafuyu, Minori and Nanaya make up the main cast for Our Wonderful Days, and they all play off of each other particularly well. Mafuyu seems to get a kick out of teasing Nanaya, and those particular moments gave me a few good laughs.
Together, the four girls make for a fun group of characters.
Just from having read the first volume of Our Wonderful Days, I can already tell that it is a wonderful manga. A really fun group of characters with some cute interactions and two couples at differing stages in a relationship really pulled me into this story.
Should Our Wonderful Days keep up the same level of quality, then it will certainly be a manga series I would strongly recommend any yuri fan picks up.
