Hard to believe we are already approaching the final season of anime for 2019. We are, though, and that means it must be time for me to take a look at what is coming up and what I shall be watching next season.
Information is taken from LiveChart.me, as ever.
Aikatsu on Parade!
The next season of Aikatsu is a crossover featuring characters from every entry of the franchise so far. Despite only being familiar with the Aikatsu Friends! characters, I’ll be watching.
Aikatsu on Parade! starts airing on the same day as my birthday, the 5th of October.
Another shipgirl anime based on a game. First we had KanColle, now we have this. I briefly checked out the game before, and it was all right I suppose. The PV looks promising.
Azur Lane starts on October 3rd.
Didn’t I Say to Make My Abilities Average in the Next Life?!
Having read the light novels, this anime is probably my most anticipated show of this season. Judging from the PVs, it will be skipping the Eckland Academy stuff and diving straight into the Crimson Vow. I’m happy with that; I didn’t really get into the series proper until Mile started adventuring with the Crimson Vow.
I can definitely see Abilities Average meeting with some mixed reception due to what has and what hasn’t been adapted, but I’m looking forward to it either way.
Didn’t I Say to Make My Abilities Average in the Next Life?! starts on October 7th.
GRANBLUE FANTASY: The Animation Season 2
I thought the first season of Granblue Fantasy was an enjoyable enough fantasy romp, so I’m up for a second. Especially if they give us another special episode with Djeeta as the main character again.
GRANBLUE FANTASY: The Animation Season 2 starts on October 4th.
Houkago Saikoro Club
Cute girls play board games. Sometimes all you need is a simple premise to sell me on an anime.
Houkago Saikoro Club stars on October 2nd.
Kandagawa Jet Girls
Girls compete in jet ski races. The two to a team nature of the races is drawing comparisons to a certain other anime, but I don’t think that’s worth worrying about.
Kandagawa Jet Girls starts on October 8th.
My Hero Academia Season 4
Its the fourth season of My Hero Academia – I’ve watched the previous three, no sense in stopping now. Its a decent enough shonen show.
My Hero Academia 4th Season starts on October 12th.
Null & Peta
A “slapstick sister comedy”, about a genius building a robot version of her sister after tragically losing her.
Null & Peta stars in October some time. The specific date has yet to be revealed at the time of writing.
Rifle is Beautiful
Another Girls’ Club anime, though this one focuses on a Shooting Club. Produced by one of my favourite anime studios at the moment, 3HZ – the same people who have given us FLIP FLAPPERS, Princess Principal and Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online.
Rifle is Beautiful starts on October 13th.
Z/X: Code Reunion
Haven’t got a whole lot of information on this one, but the PV shows that there will be girls and they will be battling… something, I presume.
Another couple shows that are on my “maybe” list at the moment are Psycho-Pass 3 and Tenka Hyakken: Meiji-kan e Youkoso!, simply due to there not being much information about either one. The latter is short-form anime about swords that are reincarnated as maidens, so that does grab my interest.
Usually I don’t include anime films, but this time around I shall mention Black Fox. The reason for that is that Crunchyroll will be streaming the film for select parts of the world sometime in October, which means there won’t be too much of a wait before I can see it.
As for the shows I’ll be covering during the autumn season, I intend to stick with just two this time around. I’ll continue my Star ☆ Twinkle PreCure coverage as usual, and I shall also be covering Didn’t I Say to Make My Abilities Average in the Next Life?!. I shall be comparing the light novels vs. the anime, and I can already tell that there are some big differences.
I’ve been covering Aikatsu Friends! up until now, but that entry of the Aikatsu franchise has come to an end. I’ll be watching Aikatsu on Parade at my own pace, perhaps tweeting about it if anything particularly significant happens.
The continuing shows that I will still be watching: BORUTO: NARUTO NEXT GENERATIONS, One Piece and of course, Star ☆ Twinkle PreCure.
A lot to look forward to in the next season of anime.
