We are now roughly six weeks into the spring season of anime, so I shall be sharing what I think about each of the shows I am watching this season.
I feel like spring will be the quietest season this year for me in terms of anime, but there still have been some particular highlights.
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden WindGolden Wind has been pretty good so far. We’ve finally met the boss of Passione, and Giorna and company are in the process of working out something to defeat him – after all, his Stand King Crimson doesn’t appear to have any weaknesses. Trish Una has been a great addition to the team. Watching her go from someone who needed to be protected to an active Stand user was really satisfying.
Hitoribocchi no MarumaruseikatsuWA HA HA!
Hitoribocchi no Marumaruseikatsu has been a lot of fun so far. Bocchi is such a precious character, and the friends she has made so far all enjoyable to watch. A strong contender to be my favourite show of this season.
Joshi KauseiJoshi Kausei has just been small bursts of fun. What makes it particularly notable is the absence of dialogue. A decent way to spend a few minutes each Saturday.
Miru TightsUnsurprisingly, Miru Tights is a short anime about girls who wear tights. The focus is mostly on the tights, but we have had a brief introduction for each of the main characters.
Fairy Tail Final SeasonThe battle against Zeref’s forces continue, with revelations about certain characters coming to light. Some fairly decent action going on here.
One PieceOne Piece has started the Reverie Arc, with royals from around the world gathering at the Holyland of Mariejois. Unfortunately, this arc has also brought plenty of lengthy flashbacks, which means that the story is not exactly progressing that quickly.
BORUTO: NARUTO NEXT GENERATIONSBORUTO: NARUTO NEXT GENERATIONS just gave us an arc that focused on Boruto’s Team 7 working with the all-female Team 15, which was actually pretty good. I’m happy whenever Sumire, Wasabi and Namida get to do something.
The most recent episode started a new arc, focusing on Mirai Sarutobi as she embarks on a mission to guard Kakashi and Might Guy. Seems like it could be a fun arc.
Attack on Titan Season 3 Part 2The second part of Attack on Titan Season 3 has pretty much jumped right into the action. Eren and company are so tantalisingly close to finding just what is in that basement, but there’s the small matter of enemy Titans for them to deal with before they can even think about that.
Cinderella NineI’m not particularly a fan of baseball, but I can certainly enjoy a girls’ club anime about it. I’m more interested in the characters than the sport, which is just as well; they have only played one proper game so far.
Star ☆ Twinkle PreCureStar ☆ Twinkle PreCure has been fun so far, and the introduction of the thief Blue Cat in the most recent episode was a particular highlight for me. Lala is still as cute as ever, too.
Aikatsu Friends! Shining JewelThe second season of Aikatsu Friends! has been absolutely stellar so far. The new characters introduced in this season have been great, and the already established characters have been delivering some amazing episodes too. I have very high hopes for what Aikatsu Friends! Shining Jewel has in store for us.
Strike Witches: 501st JOINT FIGHTER WING, Take Off!It had a shaky start, but Strike Witches: 501st JOINT FIGHTER WING, Take Off! has managed to find its stride by this point and has been a decent comedy so far. It does favour certain characters over others, which is unfortunate.
One Punch Man Season 2One Punch Man‘s second season has been all right. Sure, it doesn’t look as good as the first, but it is a different studio animating it. What is being got across, though, is the story. We have Saitama entering a martial arts contest, whilst there is an unprecedented outbreak of monsters. We also have the hero hunter Garo, who has been shown completely obliterating S rank heroes.
Say what you want about the animation quality or the studio animating it, but I’ve been having fun watching the second season of One Punch Man.
Fight League: Gear Gadget GeneratorsFight League: Gear Gadget Generators has been really quite enjoyable so far. There’s been some great action, and I like the relationship between Wrench and Mona Chrome. Not a bad way to spend 10 minutes every Thursday.
Million Arthur Season 2Dancho and her allies continue the quest to destroy one million Excaliburs. Dancho is an absolutely wonderful character, and the various enemy Arthurs she and her team faces give us some quite amusing situations. Another fun anime.
Carole & TuesdayWhat a delightful show Carole & Tuesday is. Carole and Tuesday are both great characters with a fun dynamic and the soundtrack for this show is excellent. Arguably one of the best shows this season.
Kiratto Pri☆Chan 2nd SeasonThe second season of Kiratto Pri☆Chan feels just like more of the first. That’s by no means a bad thing, as it has been enjoyable enough. New characters Maria and Suzu are almost certainly going to hook up at some point. Whilst I do appreciate the introduction of new characters, I don’t feel like they have had quite the same impact as those from Aikatsu Friends! Shining Jewel.
Still waiting for both Meltic StAr and iL’ange to return, but I suppose that will have to wait whilst the new characters are established.
Dia Nijinosaki is my favourite of the new characters, though both Maria and Suzu are all right as well. I am growing sick of hearing the word ‘kawaii’, though…
So that’s my thoughts on each of the anime shows I have chosen to watch this season. Ask me to pick out a top three, and I’d probably go with Hitoribocchi no Marumaruseikatsu, Carole & Tuesday and Aikatsu Friends! Shining Jewel.
I thought spring was going to be fairly quiet season, but it turns out there’s actually a fair bit going on.
The first half of the spring season has been good, and I look forward to seeing what the second half has in store.
We have very similar opinions of the shows we’re both watching.
Got a two questions for ya related to Fairy Tail.
Does Fairy Tail 0 feature a yuri couple or strong ship?
Did the final season of Fairy Tail introduce a couple or is it simply a potential ship?
Fairy Tail 0 does give us the Mavis X Zera ship, although it’s not quite as simple as that. Can’t really explain properly without spoilers, though.
There’s no outright confirmed yuri couples in Fairy Tail, but there are definitely certain ships that might as well be canon.
Ah. figured as much.
