She is Elma, her hear roar!
Some people live to work, others work to live. But Elma works to… eat! Elma is a Harmony Dragon who came to the human world to bring fellow dragon Tohru back home. In order to stay close to Tohru, Elma has taken a job as an office lady (OL). This charming new series from the world of Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid follows the 9-to-5 adventures of Elma as she learns to work and eat her way through the OL life. From mixed-up mixers to death marches, Elma learns that being an OL is just as hard as being a dragon…

As you have almost certainly realised by this point, Elma’s Office Lady Diary focuses on Elma from Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid. The thing that motivates her? Food, of course. Expect to see Elma eating a lot, when she’s not working – and sometimes during work as well.

With the focus on Elma working as an OL, the setting tends to be the office that Miss Kobayashi works at. As such, Miss Kobayashi herself gets a fairly sizeable role here. We also meet a couple of other co-workers of Elma and Miss Kobayashi. These co-workers are more typical OLs, especially when compared to maid otaku Miss Kobayashi and Harmony Dragon Elma.

Though saying that, Elma’s rivalry with Tohru is also a key part of this manga, so the Dragon Maid herself does make a fair few appearances. All the other usual suspects put in appearances here and there as well.

Part of the charm of Elma’s Office Lady Diary is that Elma can be fairly naive when it comes to the human world – unlike Tohru, she hasn’t had someone like Miss Kobayashi to teach her about human customs. Though saying that, Miss Kobayashi does take Elma under her wing in a sense when they are working together.

This first volume of Elma’s Office Lady Diary is a very good start for the spin-off, giving us a lot of fun situations that revolve around Elma. If you’ve seen the Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid anime or read the manga and wanted more from Elma, that is exactly what Elma’s Office Lady Diary provides.
For those seeking to explore the world of Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid even further beyond the original manga and anime, this spin-off is a great of way of doing just that – and the same goes for Kanna’s Daily Life, too.

  1. Nice to see her get a spin-off. I wish she would have gotten more screen time in the anime.
