Oh, hey a new season of anime has started. That must mean that it is time to share my first impressions of the shows I have chosen to watch for this season. There’s nothing else to add here, so let’s just dive straight in.
HANEBADO!I was pretty cautious about this badminton anime, but after having seen the first episode I feel like it might actually turn out to be all right. Of course, it might go and prove my initial misgivings later on, but for now its first episode held my interest.
Encouragement of Climb Season 3Before Laid-Back Camp, we had Encouragement of Climb. Admittedly camping and mountain climbing are different, but both are pursuits that take place in the great outdoors. Encouragement of Climb returns for a third season, and it is a very welcome return. Aoi and Hinata make for a good pair, and we’ve already seen a spectacular view from a mountain in the first episode.
Chio’s School RoadI can already tell that this will be on the sillier side of things, and that is something that I warmly welcome. This first episode had made me laugh on multiple occasions, and I’m always up for some comedy.
I’m going to say that this is a perfect anime for the summer time, particularly as it about beach volleyball. It’s off to a pretty good start, and I had fun watching the first episode – in fact, it was good enough that I decided to cover it weekly. Thoughts on the first episode here.
Cells at Work! Here’s another show I’ll be covering weekly, and that’s because I have been collecting the manga. The anime adaptation was exactly what I was hoping for, which pleases me a lot. I have more detailed thoughts on this show here.
This had a fun first episode, with Hanako arriving in Japan and discovering that she didn’t exactly have the right idea about what idols are. Admittedly it seemed like any other idol show, but then Hanako had a surprise in store at the end of the first episode.
Asobi Asobase – workshop of fun –
Here’s another comedy anime, and much like Chio’s School Road, the humour in this one has appeal for me. It’s very silly, and I can see both shows competing to be my favourite comedy of this season. Definitely earns bonus points for its ending theme, as well.
That brings an end to my first set of first impressions for the summer 2018 season of anime. As things stand, I would pick out Cells at Work!, Harukana Receive and Encouragement of Climb Season 3 as my top three shows in this first week.
However, there are more shows that I will be picking up – they just haven’t aired quite yet.
Stay tuned to see my first impressions of Dropkick on My Devil!, Happy Sugar Life and Revue Starlight.
