KiraKira ☆ PreCure a la Mode Episode 38: One Big Circle of Friends

It’s been quite a while since Pekorin has got an episode dedicated to her, but that is exactly the case for the 38th episode of KiraKira ☆ PreCure a la Mode. Her personal growth results in quite a change.

Pekorin

Human form Pekorin

So like many fairies of PreCure past, Pekorin gains a human form after she has a dream where she meets Lumiere. Naturally, this comes as quite a shock to her fellow fairies, and the girls of KiraPati. With her new human form, Pekorin is eager more than ever to help out around KiraPati. Her first order of business is to go shopping for ingredients.

Going shopping

Pekorin departs to go shopping

Pekorin insists that she goes shopping on her own. However, unbeknownst to her, she is being watched over.

Watching

Aoi, Ichika, Ciel and Himari subtly keep an eye on Pekorin

Pekorin’s shopping trip goes fairly, even though she manages to lose her pouch. Fortunately, she soon recovers it and everything is back on track. Pekorin returns to Pekorin without incident, with the ingredients.

Welcome Back, Pekorin

Ichika gets all overprotective of Pekorin

With her new human form, Pekorin insists of making sweets for everyone to eat – and that includes her fellow fairies and the local animals too.

Let's la Cooking

Pekorin even uses Ichika’s catchphrase

Pekorin toils away in the kitchen, and after a while she is able to finish making her sweets; in this case, doughnuts.

With the doughnuts finished, everyone gathers together to eat them. There is a lot of kira-kiraru produced, which naturally means that it is about time for a villain to show up.

Grave

Grave arrives in his Diable-powered ‘Gravemobile’

As you would expect, that means transformation time for PreCure. However, they struggle against Grave. When it seems like he has the upper hand, Pekorin steps forward.

Pekorin protects PreCure

Pekorin protects PreCure

Pekorin musters up all the power she can to protect PreCure. Though she is able to do it, the effort exhausts her and she returns to her fairy form. Of course, Cure Whip and the others are grateful for Pekorin’s assistance.

Pekorin's Kira-Kiraru

PreCure borrow Pekorin’s kira-kiraru to fight Grave

With Pekorin’s kira-kiraru, PreCure are able to beat Grave, who claims he was only out for a ‘test drive’ before retreating.
After all that, Pekorin is unable to take on human form again. Oh, and it seems that Pikario will be waking up soon.

That’s it for this episode, and I have to say that these last few haven’t exactly been stellar. Episode 35 was brilliant, but the episodes that have come after that haven’t really had much of an impact on me.
Yeah, sure, Pekorin becoming human was cute, but I honestly don’t really think much of it. Considering status quo was restored at the end of the episode, I don’t really feel that we really gained anything.
I know KiraKira ☆ PreCure a la Mode can be absolutely amazing when it wants to be (case in point: episodes 25 and 35), but I feel it struggles to consistently maintain that quality.
This episode isn’t exactly terrible, but I doubt it will be one that I remember very well when I think back on KiraKira ☆ PreCure a la Mode as a whole.

Next time, looks like Grave is going to come back even more powerful ever, and a character I don’t really care about makes a return. We’ll also have to wait two weeks for the next episode.

  1. OG-Man says:

Human Pekorin was fun to watch. Other than that this episode served to remind adult fans that at its core this is a kids show, despite it often being yuri friendly.
