Top Five Saber Class Servants

Those familiar with the Fate franchise will know that there are several different classes of Servants in the franchise. My particular favourite happens to be the Saber class, and part of that is due to the various characters who are summoned as Saber class servants.
To celebrate the release of Fate/EXTELLA: The Umbral Star, I figured I would share my top five Saber class Servants.
These particular Servants will hail from Fate/stay night, Fate/Zero, Fate/Apocrypha and Fate/EXTELLA: The Umbral Star. My only experience with Fate/Grand Order was the First Order anime, so not really knowing the Servants from that particular game probably narrows down this list a fair bit. The game may have got an English release, but that was only in America as far as I know – it’s definitely not available through the Google Play Store on my phone.
On this list, each Saber will have their own unique identity. Some of the Saber class Servants do have variants, but they won’t be included on this list.
I’ll avoid spoilers as best I can, so don’t expect me to reveal the Servants’ true identities or Noble Phantasms directly here.
Let’s start with an honourable mention of two charactera who are not Servants, but are able to channel their powers: Illyasviel von Einzbern and Miyu Edelfelt from Fate/kaleid liner PRISMA☆ILLYA.

By Installing a Servant’s Class Card, Illya and Miyu are able to gain that Servants abilities. Both of them Install the Saber Class Card at different points of Fate/kaleid liner PRISMA☆ILLYA‘s story, and take on the appearances shown above. They effectively become the Heroic Spirit, so that’s why I’m mentioning them here.

With that honourable mention out of the way, let’s get on with the actual list.

Number 5: SaberSaber5Appears in: Fate/Extra, Fate/Extra CCC, Fate/Extra CCC Fox Tail, Fate/EXTELLA: The Umbral Star, Fate/Grand Order, Chibichuki!, Koha-Ace
This is one of the playable Saber class Servants from Fate/EXTELLA: The Umbral Star, and proof that not every one is turned into an anime girl just because. He just edges out Fate/Apocrypha‘s Saber of Black for this list as he comes from a British legend, and I love seeing my home culture represented in foreign media.
As for his personality, this Saber’s diligence and prodigal talent have brought him far. However, he is unaccustomed to frustration, which means he sometimes has trouble reading the mood in a given situation.

Number 4: Saber
Nero Claudius
Appears in: Fate/Extra, Fate/Extra CCC, Fate/EXTELLA: The Umbral Star, Fate/Grand Order, All Around Type-Moon, Capsule Servant, Chibichuki!, Koha-Ace
Another playable Saber class Servant from Fate/EXTELLA: The Umbral Star. She speaks of herself as a king. She is so confident in herself that she unreservedly praises her own talents and considers herself a work of art.
What I like about this particular Saber is her arrogance. She’s very devoted to her Master, as well, which is always nice to see.
She is often called Red Saber, but don’t confuse her with Saber of Red.

Number 3: Saber
Altera
Appears in: Fate/EXTELLA: The Umbral Star
Would it surprise you to discover that this Saber is yet another playable Servant from Fate/EXTELLA: The Umbral Star? I have yet to access her story at the time of writing, so I have only encountered her as an enemy in what I have played of the game so far.
However, from those encounters, I can surmise that she is a powerful character, though there is an emptiness to her.
I really like the design of her sword, and her Noble Phantasm is pretty spectacular too.

Number 2: Saber of Red
Saber of RedAppears in: Fate/Apocrypha, Fate/Grand Order, Capsule Servant, Character material, Chibichuki!, Koha-Ace
This particular Saber appears in Fate/Apocrypha, and is another Hero from a British legend. At the time of writing this, the Fate/Apocrypha anime is only a few episodes in. However, as soon as this character appeared, she pretty much won me over immediately.
Mentioning her father or her gender in front of her is a bad idea, but other than that she seems like a fun character. She enjoys a good fight, though she has a surprisingly cute side to her as well. She also has a cute little fang, which certainly gets my approval.

Number 1: Saber
Saber1Appears in: Fate/stay night, Fate/Zero, Fate/EXTELLA: The Umbral Star, Fate/Ace Royal, Fate/Grand Order, Fate/hollow ataraxia, Fate/Labyrinth, Fate/school life, Fate/tiger colosseum, Fate/tiger colosseum UPPER, Fate/Unlimited CodesAll Around Type-MoonCapsule ServantCarnival PhantasmChibichuki!, Koha-Ace
Yet another Saber class Servant that hails from a British legend, and she still remains my favourite to this day. This was the first Saber class Servant I was ever introduced to – through the first Fate/stay night anime. She has appeared several more times since, including in Fate/Zero (still my favourite Fate anime to this day).
Saber happens to be amongst the more powerful Servants, and she too has a spectacular Noble Phantasm.
This Saber has Alter and Lily variants. Saber Alter is pretty much just an evil version of this Servant, and her appearance in Fate/kaleid liner PRISMA☆ILLYA‘s first season results in one of the best battles of that entire spin-off.
Saber Lily is a younger version of Saber, who is optimistic and oh so naive.

As I explore more of the Fate franchise, this list will likely change. For now, though, I am satisfied with it.
There are many more than the five Saber class Servants mentioned here, so feel free to share your favourites in the comments; just don’t go giving away their true identities or Noble Phantasms.
