I’ve shared my first impressions on a handful of shows that have premiered this season (click here for part 1), but there’s a few more that I’ll be watching as well. Without anything further to add here, let’s just dive straight in.Made in Abyss
Made in Abyss was off to a fairly interesting start, complete with a few funny moments. There was one joke that I wasn’t particularly keen on, but that’s pretty much a minor gripe.
Seems harmless enough at the moment, but this type of show definitely seems like the type that may end up becoming surprisingly dark.
Action Heroine Cheer Fruits
I found the first episode of Action Heroine Cheer Fruits to be a lot of fun. An and Mikan are the characters seen above, and I think they’re both pretty great. I’m feeling pretty good about what the rest of this show has in store for us. From this first episode alone, I would say that it feels somewhat similar to Love Live!, just with action heroines instead of school idols.
A Centaur’s Life
I already knew that I was going to like this series from having read a bit of the manga before. A Centaur’s Life had an enjoyable first episode, and I look forward to seeing more from Hime, Nozomi and Kyouko. Much like Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid, I also know that there are some younger cast members who are almost certainly going to melt hearts when they appear – I look forward to seeing them.
Also, I decided to cover this on a weekly basis – click here for my post covering the first episode.
Princess Principal
I really liked the first episode of Princess Principal. We got some pretty great action scenes, and we learned a little about the main cast of characters – in particular Ange, who is a liar. For more of my thoughts on it, check out my post on the first episode.
CHRONOS RULER
I picked this up on a whim because Crunchyroll got it. I thought it wasn’t too bad. It’s about two brothers, Kiri & Victo, who fight demons known as Horologues. Horologues appear when a human wishes they could turn back time, so the first episode had them dealing with a lass who had lost her beloved brother in the past.
Kiri is the serious type, and the polar opposite of Victo. The end of the episode also drops a fairly interesting revelation, too.
It may not be the best thing I’m watching this season, but I am interested in seeing where it goes. There’s also a character called Mina who has yet to show up – voiced by Rie Kugiyama, I’m curious to see how she’ll fit into the plot.
NEW GAME!!
Having recently rewatched NEW GAME!, I am happy to have Aoba and her Eagle Jump employees return once more. I still love the cast of characters – Aoba and Hifumi in particular being highlights for me. You can see my thoughts on the first episode by clicking here.
So that’s more or less what I’ll be watching during this summer season. Symphogear AXZ and NEW GAME!! are the shows that have impressed me most with their first episodes, but I pretty much expected that as they are the fourth and second seasons of their respective shows.
For non-sequel stuff, Princess Principal, Fate/Apocrypha, Action Heroine Cheer Fruits and A Centaur’s Life have been the shows that have impressed me most.
Overall, a great start to a season of anime that I have no doubt I will enjoy.
As expected Summer shows a lot more promise than Spring did…as far as shows that interest us go anyway.
You know what I mean.
