Thirteen may be unlucky for some, but hopefully that won’t be the case for Himari. She is the focus of the thirteenth episode of KiraKira ☆ PreCure a la Mode.

The newest addition to KiraPati’s selection, flamingo churros
The episode begins with Ichika, Himari and Aoi enjoying some flamingo churros together. Himari shares her knowledge about churros with her friends, and ends up getting scouted to be a presenter for a promotional video for Strawberry Hill Shopping District.
Rio watches from a nearby rooftop, fully aware of the identities of PreCure.

Ichika ends up playing the role of ‘Ichigon’ for the video

Himari is the reporter

Aoi volunteers to film the video
They try shooting the video, but Himari is unable to overcome her shyness. The video is uploaded to the internet, but it only gets a single view. The girls try some other methods to gain more views, but their efforts are fruitless.

Rio was watching the girls shoot the video
Rio suggests that they film PreCure to guarantee more views. Himari doesn’t stick around for too long as she has to get back to filming.
When Himari returns to Ichika and the others, a change of venue is in order.

Welcome to KiraPati
Whilst the customers at KiraPati enjoy their flamingo churros, Himari overhears a little girl talking to her mum.

The girls wants to know why churros are all spiky
Himari wants to answer the girl’s question, but they leave before she gets an opportunity to do so. However, she follows them out of the shop and calls out them in order to answer the girl’s question.

Himari explains why churros are spiky
Himari’s initial explanation is a little too much for the girl, so she simplifies it for her. After an explanation complete with insert song, the girl and her mother find that the churro tastes so much better.

Julio appears and steals the mother and child’s kira-kiraru

Transformation time

Guess we’re doing a ‘weapon of the week’ rather than ‘monster of the week’ – for the time being, anyway
I dunno, a bow seems really impractical against five opponents… Well, regardless, turns out the arrows home in on their targets.

Julio manages to anger Cure Custard
Julio unleashes a rain of arrows attack, but Custard counters it with a special move of her own: Custard Illusion. The whole team then perform their finishing move, which purifies Julio’s bow. Julio retreats after that.
When the girls go to check their video, they see that they have more than 300 views.

The episode ends with reporter Himari
This was a pretty good episode. Seeing Himari overcome her shyness with her passion for sweets was fun to watch, and we also got some silliness courtesy of Ichika Ichigon. Himari may not be my favourite character from this series, but I can certainly appreciate her when we get episodes like this.
We got another battle against Julio, which I guess is going to be a recurring theme for the next few episodes at least. But, much like last time, I really quite enjoyed watching the Cures fight him. Particularly with Cure Custard taking the lead because Julio managed to tick her off. That was a pretty great moment.
I still think that the stronger episodes of KiraKira ☆ PreCure a la Mode are those that focus on the main characters.
I’m really quite looking forward to the next episode, as it is one that focuses on Aoi – and the preview revealed something about her that has only made me like her even more.
It was great for Himari get the spotlight and seeing her overcome her social anxiety. she makes an adorable reporter and will become an adorable pastry researcher in the future.
