Thoughts on the Fire Emblem Direct Broadcast

After the Direct announced, I went over a few things that I would like to see featured in it. Were my expectations met? Well, let’s take a look.

I’m very pleased with what they announced in this Direct – you can watch the full thing in the video above.

First up, Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia. Now, anyone who knows their Fire Emblem lore will probably be familiar with the place known as Valentia – it is the setting of the second game in the franchise, Fire Emblem Gaiden.
Yep, Fire Emblem Gaiden is getting an updated re-release for the Nintendo 3DS family of consoles. I did say I would like to be able to play the old games, though I guess this is better than getting a translated Virtual Console release.
There’ll also be amiibo of the two main characters, Alm and Celica, released alongside the game when it comes out on May 19th.

That title – Fire Emblem Echoes – I don’t know, but I feel like this could be the first in a series of Fire Emblem remakes – it would be pretty interesting to see if Genealogy of the Holy War, Thracia 776 and Sword of Seals get the same treatment. At the moment, that’s just me getting my hopes up, though.

Oh, yeah, you know that new console coming out – the Nintendo Switch? That’s getting a Fire Emblem game – all we know at the moment is that it is due out in 2018. That’s a long way away, but it’s nice to have confirmation that my favourite franchise will be on the console.

We saw a small bit of gameplay from Fire Emblem Warriors, but it didn’t really give much away. Fire Emblem Warriors will also be released for the New Nintendo 3DS consoles alongside the Switch.

The last part of the presentation focused on Fire Emblem Heroes, the previously announced Fire Emblem game for smart devices. I have to say, what I saw quite intrigued me and I’ll probably be downloading when it is released on February 2nd on Google Play.
There’s also a website for the game you can visit. Click here for that.
Currently, there’s an event running called ‘Choose Your Legends’. People can vote for their favourite characters, and the hero and heroine with the most votes will appear in Fire Emblem Heroes wearing special Choose Your Legend outfits.

We didn’t get any reveals as to the roster of Fire Emblem Warriors, but it sure is a great feeling as a Fire Emblem fan to know that we have all this new stuff heading our way.

  1. The Otaku Judge says:

It’s good to see that we have more Fire Emblem to look forward to. Fingers crossed that Gaiden is a bit more feature rich than Shadow Dragon.
