MCM London Comic Con October 2016 Anime Acquisitions

At the MCM London Comic Con, we always get announcements of upcoming anime DVD and blu-ray releases for the UK and this time around was no exception. As is usually the case, I’ll be sharing them here.

First up, announcements from Anime Limited:

  • Free! Iwatobi Swim Club
  • Mob Psycho 100
  • Assassination Classroom Season 2
  • Kiss Him, Not Me
  • March Comes in Like a Lion
  • A Silent Voice – this will be coming to limited cinemas in either December or January
  • Evangelion 1.11 You Are (Not) Alone will get an Anime Limited Collector’s Edition in early 2017
  • Princess Arete
  • Joker Game
  • Ace Attorney
  • Sword Art Online The Movie: Ordinal Scale – Anime Limited will be bringing it to UK cinemas in March 2017.
  • Tenchi GXP
  • Show Genroku Rakugo
  • Rokka: Braves of the Six Flowers
  • Dagashi Kashi
  • Silver Spoon

They’ll be posting further details on their website about these releases in the future, so keep an eye on that if any of these titles interest you.

Next up is MVM Entertainment, who don’t have as many announcements as Anime Limited:

  • Invaders of the Rokujyoma!? will be released on both DVD and blu-ray in January
  • Girls Beyond Wasteland is due out next year, though the exact date and format are TBA.
  • Girls und Panzer der Film

Only three new announcements, but MVM still have the following coming out as well: Gate, Monster Musume, Busou Shinki, Norn 9, Nurse Witch Komugi R, Owarimonogatari, Re-Kan, Lain, Skip Beat and Tenchi!. Again, keep an eye on their website for any further details.

Finally, we have Manga Entertainment and Animatsu:

  • Ghost in the Shell (the original movie) will be showing in over 80 UK cinemas on 25th January, and it will be released on home video in March 2017 – as too will the Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex movies The Laughing Man, Individual Eleven and Solid State Society.
  • Yu-Gi-Oh! The Dark Side of Dimensions will also be shown at UK cinemas.
  • Berserk: The Golden Age will have a movie collection released, which includes Egg of the King, Battle for Doldrey and Advent.
  • Boruto the Movie will be released on DVD and blu-ray on 3rd April 2017 in the UK.
  • Animatsu will be releasing Kinmoza in early 2017, and Hello! Kinmoza later on in the year.
  • Beyond the Boundary the Movie: I’ll Be Here will be released on DVD and Collector’s blu-ray in 2017.
  • Flying Witch
  • Gatchaman Crowds insight will be released on DVD and blu-ray in 2017.
  • A Certain Magical Index II and A Certain Scientific Railgun S will also be released in 2017.

Once again, keep an eye on the Manga UK website for more details about these releases.

I think that covers everything that was announced over the course of the Comic Con weekend.

Anyway, as for my thoughts on the announcements: Manga UK have made me very happy with Kinmoza and Flying Witch. If I were to rank all of my favourite slice-of-life series, I’m fairly confident both shows would occupy the top two spots. With Gatchaman Crowds insight and A Certain Scientific Railgun S also seeing release in the UK, Manga UK and/or Animatsu has the best selection of announcements – at least, in my humble opinion.
My personal top picks of Anime Limited and MVM Entertainment’s announcements are Mob Psycho 100 and Girls und Panzer der Film respectively. MVM may have also got the Anzio OVA for release as well, but there’s no mention of it in their Twitter feed…

A fair amount to look forward to in terms of anime releases for next year, then. Feel free to share any thoughts on the acquisitions.
