Here’s another upcoming anime series that has caught my attention. This one is called Flip Flappers, and I have to say that the art in that key visual at the top of the post appeals to me.
How does the world look in your eyes? Papika and Cocona, the heroines of the story, hold the keys to open the door. When two girls meet, their adventures in a different time and overlapping dimension called “Pure Illusion” begin. Many things in Pure Illusion will stand in the girls’ way on their search for the mysterious crystal called the “Shard of Mimi”, an item that is said to grant any wish. However, when the girls find themselves in danger, the Shard of Mimi shines, and they are able to transform.
The two main characters:
The original work for the series is credited to Pure Illusionist. The director is Kiyotaka Oshiyama (animation director Space Dandy, Dennō Coil, Xam’d: Lost Memories), at Studio 3Hz (Celestial Method, Dimension W). The character designer and chief animation director is Takashi Kojima (Your Lie in April, Kokoro Connection animation director). The conceptual artist for this is tanu (original character design for Tari Tari, The Rolling Girls). The series is being produced by Infinite.
Japanese website MoCa News has posted several screenshots from the series, which you can view by clicking here. I’ll also include a couple in this post.
This looks like it’s going to be another magical girl show, which is perfectly fine by me. I’d guess that Papika and Cocona are going to develop a close bond, with both experiencing growth due to the presence of each other. I’ll be keeping an eye out for more news on this one, and I suspect I’ll be watching it when it airs in October as well.
Oh, and here’s a PV:
