So I’m going to get back into the habit of making a post whenever I come across some anime-related news that interests me, and here’s something I encountered earlier today.
This anime is an adaptation of a trading card game. The story for the card game involves the opening of ‘Hairō’ portals, which end up fusing three worlds together. ‘Exceed’ powers are awakened in teenage girls, so an academy for them is built on an isolated Seiran Island in the Pacific. Girls with powers are called ‘Progress’ girls.
Now, where have I heard of an isolated island for girls with special powers before? That would be Valkyrie Drive, in case you were wondering.
Oh, and here’s the posters from the AnimeJapan 2016 event:
Here’s the main characters of the game (and presumably the anime):

Miumi Hinata, a first-year student from the blue world, Earth. Voiced by Yuka Aisaka.

Sofina, a brilliant witch from the dark world, Darkness Embraces. Voiced by Mai Ishihara.

Aurora, an amnesiac girl from the red world, Terra Rubli Aurora. Voiced by Saori Hayami

SW=Code Omega 46 Senia, an android girl from the white world, System;White=E.G.M.A. Voiced by Kana Hanazawa
In addition to the cast members listed above for each character, we also have:
- Sarah Emi Bridcutt as Naia Lapucella
- Yumi Hara as Almaria
- Aki Toyosaki as Erueru
- Minako Kotobuki as Saya Sōgetsu
- Rika Tachibana as Code Omega 77 Stella
The animation will be produced by SILVER LINK (Strike Witches: Operation Victory Arrow, Fate/kaleid liner Prisma☆Illya, Non Non Biyori).
I like the concept for this anime, even if I am going to take a cautious approach to it due to ‘Ange’ being one of the words in the title. Well, I’ll guess I’ll just have to wait and see what happens. Also, I really like all the white world names. This anime is due to premiere in July.
Small note: This was announced far before Cross Ange was a thing. It’s taken quite a while to get a release date.
Also, the card game has SIkun as the main character, so let us just hope they don’t follow that formula here. It looked really interesting, but when I played the actual game, I learned the regrettable truth.
Still, it’s not like anime have never ditched SIkun for a better story and cast.
Well for now, this has piqued my interest – the whole ‘Cross Ange’ thing is (hopefully) me being overly cautious. It’s not like I have to watch the whole thing if I don’t enjoy it.
For the moment, all the cast that has been revealed has been female – fingers crossed that it remains that way. For now, it’s just a case of waiting and seeing what happens.
Wary of this one, I am but who knows? Maybe it’ll be a similar case to the Koihime Musou anime. That would be reassuring.
I’m sure we’ll find out nearer the time whether this will be worth watching. Definitely got my fingers crossed for something similar to Koihime Musou.
Same here good sir.
