Spring 2015 Anime First Impressions

Re-Kan!
The lead character in this, Hibiki Amami, is able to see ghosts. Everyone else around isn’t, and therefore hilarity ensues. The first episode was enjoyable, and I look forward to seeing more interaction between Amami and Inoue.

Gunslinger Stratos: The Animation
This is an adaptation of a game that I know nothing about. What I do know, though, is that the scenario for this one is provided by Gen Urobuchi. That was a big enough draw for me to start watching it, and the end of the first episode was rather interesting. Some people seem to have taken issue with the quality of the animation, but that’s not something that particularly bothers me.

Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha ViVid
I loved this first episode. Seeing the interaction between Vivio, “Nanoha-mama” and “Fate-mama” is incredibly heartwarming, and we got a glimpse of Vivio’s combat prowess. It’s nice to see some familiar faces from StrikerS, too. This is one of three contenders for my favourite show of this season.

Show By Rock!!
Another anime with a first episode I enjoyed. But, well, I love me some rock music and if you’re going to have a cat-girl play a killer guitar solo I will enjoy it. The CG parts were out of left-field (or maybe I didn’t pay enough attention to the trailers…), but it was still pretty great. The second of my contenders for favourite show of this season.

Hello!! Kiniro Mosaic
Season two of Kiniro Mosaic just continues with it being… well, Kiniro Mosaic. The cuteness, the humour, the gratuitous English… it’s all there once more. Naturally, this is the third contender for my favourite show of the season.

Sound! Euphonium
Another musically-themed show, this time with a focus on a brass band. I wasn’t sure about watching this one at first, but the first episode was enjoyable enough.

Wish Upon the Pleiades
Another magical girl show. We got five magical girls, who are trying to collect fragment of a spaceship engine to send their president, a Pleiadian, back home. An antagonist was introduced, though they made a hasty retreat. The first episode wasn’t too bad, but Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha ViVid is far superior to this in my opinion.

Mikagura School Suite
This series spawned from Vocaloid songs. The lead protagonist, Eruna, is a character I like. It seems that this anime will be about battles between school clubs, so there might be some neat action sequences coming up. I wasn’t too sure about watching this one at first, but the first episode has convinced me to do so.

Urawa no Usagi-chan
This is a series of shorts, each episode clocking in at less than five minutes. The first episode was peaceful and easy-going, and I strongly suspect that trend will continue. Enjoyable enough.

Magical girls, rock ‘n’ roll animal girls, gratuitous English and the supernatural, amongst other things… ah, don’t forget the abundance of exclamation marks in the various titles, too… this season has a got a lot going for it, and I look forward to seeing where things will go from here.
