Now, here’s something that has caught my interest. An anime called Chaos Dragon is due to air in the summer season, and the whole reason for its existence plus some of the names attached to it have really intrigued me.
Five prominent anime, art and game creators came together for a series of “table talk role-playing game” sessions which gave birth to a “role-playing fiction” story called Red Dragon. The Chaos Dragon anime is based on this “role-playing fiction”. Each participant created their own character to guide through these sessions. These sessions were devised by “fiction master” Makoto Sanda (Rental Magica).
A promotional video introduces the premise, locations and main characters of Chaos Dragon.
Taking place in the year 3015, the great nations Donatia and Kouran divide the world in a cold war as they fight for supremacy. In the middle of this standoff is the island country Nil Kamui which has lost its independence.
Chaos Dragon is being directed by Masato Matsune (Fate/Prototype CG supervisor, Meganebu! opening storyboard and animation director) at Silver Link/Connect. Team Barrel Roll’s Ukyō Kodachi (Neppu Kairiku Bushi Road, Macross Frontier novels) is in charge of series scripts with assistance by Shou Aikawa (Fullmetal Alchemist, Ghost Slayers Ayashi, EUREKA SEVEN AO).
Makoto Sanda was once a part of Group SNE, which created the Record of Lodoss War franchise. It too started as a session of role-playing game sessions, before being turned into a series of novels that spawned anime, manga and more.
Sanda created the Red Dragon world with Kiyomune Miwa (Fate/stay night, Rental Magica collaborator) and Ukyō Kodachi.
Music is being composed by Hitoshi Sakimoto (Final Fantasy XII, Tactics Ogre, The Tower of Drauga: The Aegis of Uruk. The project is being produced by editor best known for Kodansha’s literary magazine Faust, Katsushi Ota.
I reckon this could be quite interesting, and I shall look forward to seeing it during the summer season.
