Rory’s 3DS Game of December

We are now in the final month of 2014, which means it is time for my final Game of the Month for the year. For the 3DS, my Game of the Month for December is a remake – well, technically a pair of remakes.

Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire are naturally the games to which I refer. Specifically, I chose Alpha Sapphire.
These games have players return to the Hoenn region, introduced during the third generation of Pokémon games. You start off moving to Litteroot Town, and spend about five minutes there before setting off on a grand adventure to become a Pokémon master.

Of course, the generation three starters return – Treecko, Torchic and Mudkip. As someone who always goes for the Water-type starter Pokémon, I naturally chose Mudkip.
Old Pokémon return, though some of them bring some new tricks with them – Mega Evolution. Metagross and Salamence are amongst the Pokémon who have gained this new ability (two Pokémon I intend to have on my team).
Also, the two cover legendaries – Groudon and Kyogre – have access to ‘Primal Reversion’ – this seems to have something to do with the true form of both Pokémon from ancient times.

Super Contests return, and you are given a Cosplay Pikachu after you first participate in one. Cosplay Pikachu has several different outfits to wear, which changes its moves based on what it is wearing.

You can also create secret bases with the move Secret Power, and they can be shared via the power of the 3DS’ StreetPass. You can acquire various items to put in your base, just as you could in the original games.

Of course, Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire can be taken online to challenge and trade with other trainers all over the world.

Hoenn is much better-looking on the 3DS, and it is definitely worth investing in Pokémon Omega Ruby or Pokémon Alpha Sapphire (or both) if you are a fan of the Pokémon games.
