My 3DS Game of the Month for May is a title that was released in Japan on January 11th 2014, in America on May 2nd 2014 and finally in Europe on May 16th 2014. It’s a platformer, starring a certain round pink hero.
Kirby: Triple Deluxe is the game to which I refer. The plot follows Kirby as he follows a creature that has captured King Dedede. Kirby ascends the beanstalk, thus allowing him to explore the land of Floralia.
The gameplay is the standard Kirby fare. Kirby can jump, float and inhale enemies. The latter skill allows Kirby to use twenty-five different Copy abilities, including the new Circus, Archer, Bell and Beetle abilities.
Kirby also gains a new skill in the form of the Hypernova ability. Collecting a Miracle Fruit imparts this new ability on Kirby, strengthening his inhale ability.
There are loads of collectables in Kirby: Triple Deluxe. There are Sun Stones to be collected in each level, in addition to over 250 Keychains that commemorate Kirby’s adventures.
There are two subgames as well. First is Kirby Fighters, where the player chooses a Copy ability for Kirby and fights others with different abilities. The other subgame is Dedede’s Drum Bash, which is a rhythm game featuring King Dedede. There are three classic tracks available in this mode; Green Greens, Gourmet Race and King Dedede’s Theme.
There are several moments in Triple Deluxe that really show off the 3DS’ 3D capabilities. Of course, the music is brilliant too, with a mix of familiar and new tracks. It may not be the most challenging game in the world, but Kirby: Triple Deluxe is well worth playing.
