Blade & Soul Anime

Here’s something that caught my attention. An anime adaptation of a MMORPG known as Blade & Soul will air in April, and the official website has put a video up for it.

The MMORPG itself ‘brings the world of Asian martial arts fantasy to life’ and ‘bursts with action intrigue’ according to NCSoft, the company responsible for the game. I’m not too into MMORPGs myself, but I’ll certainly check out the anime.

The cast is lead by voice actress Aoi Yūki (Puella Magi Madoka Magica‘s Madoka Kaname, Symphogear‘s Hibiki Tachibana), who voices the character Jin Valel. Ayahi Takagaki plays Dan Roana, Sora Amamiya plays Jin Hazuki and Sayaka Ohara plays Elle Karen.

The anime is being directed by Hiroshi Hamasaki (Steins;Gate, Texhnolyze) and Hiroshi Takeuchi (Bodacious Space Pirates chief animation director) at studio GONZO from scripts by Atsuhiro Tomioka (Inazuma Eleven, Pokémon XY). Character designs are being adapted from Hyung-Tae Kim’s designs by Eri Nagata (Leviathan: The Last Defence, Psycho-Pass sub-character design), who is also serving as chief animation director.

I’m expecting a lot of action from this one, and not much else. Still, I enjoy that, so as long as it delivers I will be happy.

  1. I noticed that the Steins;Gate director (or, one of them since it seems there were two or something like that) was behind this so I figured I might as well give it a try. Obviously this won’t be a Steins;Gate type story and I probably shouldn’t expect too much but hoping this will turn out well.

Now that it’s much later than when you posted this, spring season’s around and I’ve actually watched the first episode. Seems to have potential but I’m worried about the short runtime, 12 episodes is pretty limited.
